European Union & Human Rights
Cyprus’ accession into the European Union in 2004 has drastically changed the legal landscape. Cypriot Law must comply with EU regulations and directives and citizens are protected by the EU’s founding and guiding principles.
Membership of the European Union guarantees the free movement of goods and services, capital and persons throughout the whole Union. Furthermore the European Union is founded on the principles of equality before the law, proportionality, legal certainty, and subsidiarity.
These principles apply to all areas of the law
